Course Description: This course prepares nurses to manage the operations of patient care services across the healthcare continuum within the framework of an established healthcare organization. The course focuses on efficient and effective management of the structure, governance, patient care delivery system of care, and outcomes of care. Through participation in discussions and assigned activities, the student will be able to: 1. Analyze external and internal rules, regulations, and policies that affect the functioning and provision of patient care services within the entire healthcare organization. 2. Synthesize the implications of governance for patient care delivery systems and their influence on the practice and roles of the nurses at the point of care delivery and in leadership positions. 3. Evaluate the characteristics of innovative patient care delivery models that support the delivery of highly reliable, efficient, and effective care healthcare services. 4. Determine strategies to manage the human resources of an interdisciplinary team to achieve culturally-sensitive, patient-centered care within financial and patient care outcome targets. 5. Use health information, technology and research findings in the delivery of patient-centered care and population health. 6. Assess the performance of a selected healthcare setting based on structure, governance, patient care delivery model, and outcomes of care. For graduate students interested in a leadership position within a healthcare system.
