Course Description: This course explores emerging trends in different areas of scientific inquiry to help students develop their understanding of the current and evolving research environment. Designed to synthesize the current state of the science and apply it to the student's own area of research. In addition, the student will apply approaches to incorporating emerging trends into an individualized research program and strategic career development.

Other considerations: The first day of the course is synchronous. Date TBD This course will help students to further refine an individualized program of research considering emerging frameworks and funding mechanisms in nursing science. Student assignments include reviewing and writing innovation components of grants and exploring alternative funding models. They will also learn techniques in how to effectively communicate their current and future research trajectory. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to 1. Discuss the current research environment, various emerging trends, and areas of scientific inquiry. 2. Articulate the potential relevance of emerging trends and areas of scientific inquiry for the student’s area of research. 3. Develop a plan for the student’s research trajectory. 4. Synthesize approaches for strategic career development.
