Course Description: OVERVIEW OF CONTENT: This is the second of a two-course sequence related to writing the dissertation proposal. This focuses on the process of dissertation proposal development. Recognizing that students are in different phases in the dissertation proposal trajectory, the course provides an opportunity to synthesize the knowledge gained from prior course work and apply this knowledge to the student’s area of inquiry. This course is designed to transition the student to independent dissertation work. To that end, the process of writing and implementing a dissertation will be discussed with all students. Prior to enrolling in this course students must have a well-defined area of inquiry. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the semester, students should be able to – 1. Articulate the process of proposing and completing a doctoral dissertation including the development of a timeline for progression to proposal defense 2. Develop an initial dissertation proposal appropriate for the student's area of inquiry in conjunction with their dissertation Chair / Advisor 3. Demonstrate critical thinking through collegial peer review of other initial dissertation proposals
