Course Description: OVERVIEW OF CONTENT: The first of two courses that provide sound theoretical and practical understanding of the logic and application of selected statistical analyses. We will cover summary of statistics and ways to present data, probability, and Bayesian statistics, measures of association, hypothesis testing and an introduction to (multivariable) model building. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the semester, students should be able to – 1. Understand descriptive and inferential statistics and their underlying probability theories. 2. Integrate study design, statistical approaches, and data collection methods appropriate to proposed research questions. 3. Evaluate characteristics of data including shapes of distribution, variance, means, and how they impact statistical test selection.
