Course Description: OVERVIEW OF CONTENT: This course applies the Social-Ecological Model as a framework for understanding the dynamic drivers of health. This course examines public and population health and health care systems. The interaction between health, policy, and the impact of health care law on individual and population health outcomes will be reviewed. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the semester, students should be able to – 1. Analyze the social context of health and drivers of health inequities 2. Evaluate the importance of epidemiology for informing scientific, ethical and political discussions of health and health outcomes 3. Summarize the role of genomic epidemiology on the future of preventative and public health 4. Describe and compare local, national, and global health care systems 5. Evaluate the effects of health care delivery systems on the health of individuals and populations 6. Examine the intersectionality of national and global policy health outcomes
