Course Description: This course is designed to engage student researchers in reading about, considering and discussing the responsible conduct of science. We will explore how to conduct research within the principles of the Belmont Report while also providing knowledge and skills to successfully submit a proposal to your local institutional review board (IRB). By the end of this course, the learner will be able to: 1. Apply the basic principles of the Belmont Report to human subjects’ research. 2. Investigating protections for vulnerable populations in research. 3. Analyzing potential risks and benefits related to research proposals. 4. Apply a data and safety monitoring plan to health care research. 5. Design a proposal for submission to a local IRB.
