Course Description: This course is intended for students doing human subjects and/or organizational research and will enable students to develop and refine their understanding of and skills in applying ethics and law of research, with a focus on the National Institute of Health’s Office for Human Research Protections’ responsible conduct of research topics.

Other considerations: The first day of the course is synchronous; date TBD. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Explore and explain the responsible conduct of research as related to topics such as: conflict of interest; use of humans and animals in research; mentor-mentee relationships; collaborative research; peer review; data acquisition, management, and ownership; research misconduct; authorship; and the scientist as a responsible member of society. 2. Clearly articulate ethically and legally acceptable solutions to problems posed about contemporary ethical issues in research. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of and methods for engaging in lifelong learning regarding scientific integrity.
