Course Description: An exploration of the form, history and impact of motion pictures as an art form, an economic force and a representative form of communications as observed through the lens of independent film. View examples of various categories of independent films and explore issues related to the social, historical, business and cultural aspects of the medium. Topics include genre studies from road movies to grind-house and a focus on auteurs from Cassavetes to Van Sant.
